ARTIST BIO:

Eloise Schoeman is Fine Artist specializing in realist painting. Born in Bristol, United Kingdom but has lived in South Africa from 2008 until recently. She studied Fine Arts at Tshwane University of Technology where she was mentored by the renowned Dr Jan van der Merwe. After completing her degree Eloise relocated to Plymouth, United Kingdom to complete her Masters in Painting at the Arts University Plymouth.

From the beginning, Eloise has seen a clear link between her photography and painting, the one not being complete without the other. In her practice, she starts by taking photographs of scenes or moments that feel familiar to her and then through the editing process she manipulates the images into compositions. Her final stage of editing a photograph is painting the work, in this way she dissects the colours, tones and details, considering where to put emphasis or lack thereof. She creates her artworks on large scale canvas using acrylic which allows her to create works fast and not overanalyze her instinctive decisions. The scale of the artworks is purposeful; Eloise wants her paintings to be immersive.

 

In newer works, she has introduced sound installation to further manipulate the experience; bridging the gap for the viewer and making their interaction a part of the conversation.
